| one step closer to becoming a new yorker |
[Feb. 5th, 2009|10:05 am] |
i changed my number yesterday to a new york number. it made me a little sad to give up the (720) number, that was my phone number for 7 years! funny how a phone number feels like an identity.
along with the new number i got a new phone and i have to say the g1 is pretty cool. |

finals are over!! i am quite exhausted but not to the point of delirium which is a nice change. I managed to get all of my projects and exams finished with out major amounts of stress this semester. It feels really good to be done, I can't believe how quickly this semester went by. I am really looking forward to next semester, 4th semester draping sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Plus I am starting the haute couture program (someone told me it was one of the only couture programs in the US-not sure if that is true). I am just excited to start working on corsets, boning, fluting and all the intricate hand-work.

| | musica nuda | ] | School is going well, there is a lot of work but this semester has been substantially less stressful. We are 5 weeks from the end of the semester so I have already started designing my final projects. I am really excited about my term garment this semester.
Work is going well. Most of my time is spent on freelance work for Hable Construction but I am also working on a few side projects. I have been talking to a couple of other designers and close friends about working on a collaborative label. It's still early in the planning stages but I'm pretty pumped about it.
I had a really nice walk through central park last weekend. It was absolutely beautiful, I have some pictures up on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/21234881@N00/sets/72157609171256865/
Besides school and work there isn't much to talk about. I rarely have time to go out and when I do I am usually too exhausted. The time change and season change really effected me this year also making me want to stay inside.
I am hosting a big Thanksgiving Day Feast, I expect about a dozen people. Lucky for me the guy I am dating has his own restaurant so he is taking care of the turkey. I just have to make the sides and find space for 12 people in my apartment. I'm excited to spend the holiday with my friends but I am also really sad I will not make it to Texas with my family. This will be my first holiday with out a single family member.
Its time for me to get back to work but before I do. I have to tell everyone (especially you Brandi) to check out Musica Nuda they are a duet (petra magoni and ferruccio spinetti) from italy and I have been totally obsessed lately. |

| | santogold | ] | As usual life is busy busy busy. It's hard to believe I have completed 5 weeks of school already, it has gone by so quickly. My classes are going well, there is a lot of work but the work is interesting and most importantly I really enjoy all of my professors. In addition to school i am doing freelance work for Habel Construction, preparing for a trunk show, styling for two photographers and of course the usual side jobs like alterations and custom items. I finished two wedding dresses last week which was huge, it felt so good to be done with them.
here they are in action!

There is the very short version, hopefully there will be time for more soon. |

'A classic suit which a businessman wears has nothing to do with fashion. For me, fashion should not be about business,' says Dirk Bikkembergs, whose own suits use unconventional cut and fastenings. This jacket has an asymmetric cut fastened with two distant buttons which suggests both militaristic and workwear themes. Having graduated with avant-garde contemporaries Ann Demeulemeester and Martin Margiela, Bikkembergs started out as a shoe designer in 1985. He made his name with a sturdy boot which has no eyelets and whose laces are threaded through the sole. The Bikkembergs aesthetic uses dark colours and heavy fabrics for his solid silhouettes, which lend them an urban appeal. He says, 'I design strong clothes for strong individuals rather than wrapping up pretentious nerds in sophisticated cashmere,' and his visual references often include macho stereotypes. |

| | the ting ting's | ] | my summer vacation is officially over! today was my first day back at school, all in all a pretty good day. I am looking forward to most of my classes this semester, draping and fashion art especially. I don't know why I thought today would be easy, we of course jumped right into the work. I already have more homework then I know what to do with. I am taking 4 of my classes online and 5 on campus. I was hoping that the online courses would not be too labor intensive but that is not the case. I have done 5 hours of homework tonight and my brain is fried. I must get some sleep so I can get up at 6am to finish my sewing for work.
Hope everyone is doing well in their parts of the world. I miss you denver folks already, i should have just stuck you all in my luggage when i was visiting. |

| bike rides, bbq's, block parties and fireworks... I love SUMMER!! |
[Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:26 pm] |
i got a free bmx bike today! my friend pete had one just sitting around. the chain is a little rusty and the breaks need to be fixed but that did not stop me from riding around the neighborhood for a few hours. going down the hill to my house as fast as i can without breaks was a lot of fun! i took a couple of pictures but then my camera battery died so i can't upload them now, i'll post them later.
I am about to walk out the door to start the holiday festivities. -happy hour tonight sangria on the patio at mezcals -late night tonight at Bar BQ -12 tomorrow frisbie in the park -3 tomorrow block party -7 tomorrow roof top bbq -9 fireworks* from rooftop (you can see the display in NJ and 3 in Manhattan from my roof) -11 pass out!
*the firework displays out here are amazing! liberty state park in NJ has been lighting them off all week and the show lasts FOREVER and they are better than any I've ever seen.
happy 4th everyone! |

| | television | ] | i just changed my flight back to Denver, I will be staying in NY to work. I get back to Denver Aug 5th and will be there exactly one week. Due to my sisters wedding and ridiculous amounts of family in town I will not get to see many of my friends.
Here is my solution.... Wed night Aug 6th I will be at Armida's stuffing my face on mexican food and trying not to forget that I am not use to drinking margaritas at that altitude. I would love for everyone who reads this to pass this along to those that might be interested and please come by for my one night appearance. |

| | radio 4 | ] | 11 months ago when i moved to NY i knew that the opportunities i would have would be amazing, I just did not know they would come so soon or be quite so amazing. Back in Dec when i was working at the coffee shop i met a photographer and we chatted a bit one day about possibly working together. At that time i was not prepared to do any big shoots so we agreed to stay in touch and see what happened down the road. about two weeks ago he called and was asking if i had any clothes available for a shoot he was doing for the editor of conde naste publications. I of course told him i did and promptly started working on few things. a week later he called me desperately seeking my help at the model casting. I went along and helped interview 20 models, made notes about each of them while he was photographing them and then helped him pack up his lights and equipment. while we were packing things up he told me how much fun he had working with me and told me he wanted to bring me on as his stylist for all the shoots. Next week i get to go to some of the largest fashion pr companies and pull clothes for the shoots! today he called to tell me that the modeling agency was so impressed with his work they want to hire us to style and shoot their next project which will include over 100 models. we have a meeting with the owners of the modeling agency on July 9th to get more details.
I can't say for sure but there is a good possibility i will not be coming back to denver for the extended visit i planned. it's hard to say no to someone when they are offering you that kind of opportunity. . . and paying you for one day what you have lived off of for months at a time.
just to brag a little about the photographer, he spent years working in hollywood on films including: pulp fiction coyote ugly life starship troopers mr wrong waynes world 2 the vanishing dracula freddy's dead the last nightmare there are more but i can't think of them all, he also wrote the screenplay for the toxic avenger!
okay i am done bragging, back to work! |

| what a week! |
[Jun. 9th, 2008|12:00 pm] |
my friend j.b. was in town this week, he left early this morning. it was so good to see him, i can't believe how many of my close friends i have not seen in a year! it will be really nice to have him in NY for good. it was nice to have a friends around that knows me so well and that has so much history. most of his trip was spent exploring new neighborhoods to get an idea about where to look for apts when he gets back. the rest of the trip was spent exploring new bars and drinking a lot of whisky. on his last day, after almost two years of waiting, we finally started my plum tree tattoo. i could only sit through about 2-1/2 hours but we managed to get all the line work and major details into the tree bark and the color in the flowers. when i get back from denver we plan on spending another 2-3 hours finishing it up.
here are a few pics of him working

this is the top of the tree coming up my neck. |
